A South Hams man has raised more than £4,300 for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust - by skydiving for his 70th birthday.

Peter Lewis from Salcombe travelled up to Dunkeswell Airfield near Honiton on Wednesday, April 12. His friend, Shirley Turner also jumped, as did Shirley’s son and daughter, Andy and Lisa.

Peter explained: “There was a delay as we waited for the right weather conditions but at 5.45pm, we eventually took off and flew up to 15,000ft.

“A full minute of free fall until the chute opened! The whole experience was amazing. Would I do it again? Yes, in a heartbeat.”

Peter continued: “I originally set a target of £1000 so I have been overwhelmed with the generosity of my family and friends.”
