A LOCAL Brownie Unit enjoyed a magical evening’s fun when they joined in the third annual Harry Potter Book Night.

1st Modbury Brownies got involved in the event, celebrated throughout the world and enjoyed an unforgettable night themed around the professors of Hogwarts.

The girls shared the pleasure of J K Rowling’s bestselling stories and helped introduce the next generation of readers to the magic of Harry Potter.

Young wizards, witches and professors were treated to an evening of games, activities, readings and quizzes. It began when the Sorting Hat decided who was in which house, and continued with activities including transfiguration games, a photo booth and readings from favourite Harry Potter books.

Professors’ offices were recreated in Modbury Primary School hall, and snacks were served inspired by foods in the books such as bat juice, fruit wands and eyeball cakes.

Brown Owl Lorraine Phillips said: ‘We were so excited to be able to join up with schools, libraries, bookshops and community centres throughout the UK and Ireland – and indeed the world – to celebrate the third annual Harry Potter Book Night.

’We have always been fans of the Harry Potter books because they are so enthralling and encourage our girls to continue to improve their reading ability.’
