A lifeguard jumped in to assist a young girl in the first ten minutes of the Salcombe Swimming Pool officially opening for the summer.

The swimming pool was opened on Saturday, May 27, with Salcombe Players handing over a cheque for £2,000 towards the running of the pool.

Peter Tobin, chair of the Salcombe and District Swimming Pool Association, said: “It was a great day.

Whilst the photographer was taking our pictures for the cheque presentation from Salcombe Players, one of our lifeguards had to jump in and assist a young girl who got into difficulties, all in the first ten minutes!!

“Our first four days have been brilliant - the pool has been full for most of the time with hundreds of people enjoying the beautiful warm water!”

The pool will now be open between 10-7pm today, Wednesday, May 31, 10am-1pm and 2.30-5.30pm tomorrow and Friday, June 1 and 2, between 2-6pm on June 3 and 4, and then regular hours of 3.30-6.30pm on weekdays and 2-6pm on weekends through the summer.
