Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club is pleased to have made grants to the total value of £1,300, from its Community Support Scheme.
Cheques were given to Bantham Surf Lifesaving Club and Tumbly Hill Day Centre. Rotarians George Lacon and Chris Miller presented the cheques.
Kelly Fradd at the Lifesaving Club expressed their thanks and said: “The grant will go towards buying mannequins dummies to train lifesavers in resuscitation. The mannequins are able to show that chest compressions, and other recovery features are properly applied by the trainee lifeguard.”
The Bantham Lifesaving Club was established in 1960 and provides lifeguard training to an advanced level, with members going on to work with the RNLI across many South Hams beaches.
Julie Solomon at Tumbly Hill Centre said: “The grant is to purchase a greenhouse for members of the Centre to organise and grow plants and vegetables. This will enable the less mobile/able to participate in the gardening programme and gardening is highly beneficial for those with learning difficulties.”
The Estuary Rotary grant scheme awards a grant of between £500/£750 quarterly. The grant monies come from donations generously given by the local community.
Applications are welcomed – see the Rotary website: www.estuaryrotary.org.uk to complete and submit the application form.
The application date closes on 31 July, with judging taking place in August.
