This September, award-winning local theatre group, KATS presents the play Entertaining Angels by Richard Everett.
A professional actor, Richard Everett turned writer is the author of eight produced stage plays. His thought-provoking comedy, Entertaining Angels explores the themes of faith, loss, communication and forgiveness.
“It’s like Songs of Praise on acid here!” exclaims exasperated daughter Jo to female vicar, Sarah in this bittersweet comedy where everyone’s faith and patience is tested to the limit.
Entertaining angels is set in a pleasant tranquil vicarage garden which is in complete contrast to the devastating fallout from a series of revelations which unfold following the death of the vicar.
The widow, Grace is stubbornly resisting moving on, both in coming to terms with her husband’s death and in relinquishing the parish house to new priest in charge, Sarah.
Despite the best efforts of her daughter to help her, Grace is behaving disgracefully, flaunting her new-found freedom to say exactly what she wants and do exactly as she pleases.
Director, Mike Davies said: “It’s this brutal honesty which delivers wit and sharp-edged comedy, particularly apparent when Grace is reunited, after 20 years, with her eccentric missionary sister.”
It transpires that everyone has a secret to confess and there are several turbulent moments. However, the comedy is never far away with some incisive cutting lines.
Directed by Mike Davies, Entertaining Angels will run from September 20-23 at Malborough Village Hall. Tickets £9 are on sale now from Kingsbridge Information Centre and online at www.kats-kingsbridge.co.uk.
