A KINGSBRIDGE resident has described an overgrown, fenced off building site as a 'blight on our town', and called for those responsible to do something about it.
Terry Evans, who lives at Kiln House, said that the site at the bottom of Tumbly Hill, next to the Quay car park has 'been lying fallow for at least five years, if not more'.
He also complained that water had begun to leak from the site in the last few months.
Mr Evans said: 'I have been in touch with South Hams Council on two occasions - the first a year or so ago, which resulted in some minor tidying by the developer, and again most recently.
'The water problem has been in South West Water hands for at least three months, and yet it is still running water to waste - water which I and other water users are paying for. Lip service to tackling leaks, but little more.
He continued: 'I am particularly annoyed by these two blights on our town. Firstly because we are about to receive a large number of visitors, vital to the local business community, yet they are to be welcomed by a view from the car park and sports centre better suited to the backwoods of the Osark mountains [in the American deep south].
'And secondly, because I love this town in which we live and I too would like to enjoy the view, preferably without having to wear wellingtons to go into the car park.
'Add to this the fact that having recently made contact with Kingsbridge in Bloom, I know that they feel that these two problems are currently negating so much of the work they are doing in the area.'
