Fire crews and police were called to a caravan blaze this afternoon at a touring park in the South Hams.
Mounts Farm Touring Park, on the A381 between Totnes and Kingsbridge, was the scene of the incident, which saw five fire appliances attend.
Greg Luckhurst witnessed the fire, saying: "We noticed the billowing smoke around 2.30pm, it appears to be two caravans on the site which have gone up in flames. The three fire crews turned up within 15 minutes of us calling and seem to have it under control. We heard six or so big booms which sounded like gas canisters going off.”
A spokesman for Devon and Somerset fire and rescue said: “Five vehicles attended the scene, as did the police, and crews wearing breathing apparatus dealt with the blaze, involving three caravans, with a hose reel jet and two water jets.”
The spokesman added that crews remain on site damping down the caravans to make them safe.
