Stokenham Preschool children were learning about pets and how to look after them last week.

Pittaford Farm Stables, owned by Claire and Liam, whose daughter attends the school, invited the kids to see the horses on Monday, March 13.

They all had a turn at brushing a pony called Tio and were even lucky enough to have a ride around the yard on him. They were shown all of the jobs that need to be done in order to care for the horses and how they are exercised and trained for racing.

Jenny Hallett, Stokenham Preschool, said: “It was clear from the smiles on everyone’s faces that the children loved this experience.”

On the way back to school, the minibus took a detour to Slapton Sands for a bit of whale spotting. Jenny added: “Unfortunately, our local humpback whale was feeling shy that day, but the sun was shining, the beach looked beautiful and the children had a delightful day. What a great place to start your education!”

The preschool is currently hard at work raising funds for a new building. They have a bingo event coming up soon on May 11. They have also set up a GoFundMe page to help achieve their overall target of replacing the existing structure. Full details of how to donate can be found at: www.gofundme.com/new-preschool-building
