FAMOUS artist and former model for Picasso, Lydia Corbett made a visit to Salcombe Primary School last week.
Back in September, Year 4 pupils were writing biographies of famous artists and had planned questions to ask Lydia Corbett during her visit.
Unfortunately Lydia broke her ankle just before her planned visit and only now has she been able to visit the school.
After giving a short talk and answering the children’s interesting questions, Lydia held a painting workshop where the children explored using Indian ink and watercolours.
Year 4 class teacher, Miriam Bennett said: ‘The children were very excited about the visit and were really inspired by all they saw and heard.’
Lydia has recently been involved with an exhibition of Picasso’s work at the National Portrait Gallery, which includes a sculpture of her.
For a few months in France in 1954, an 18-year-old Lydia Corbett, then known as Sylvette David, crossed paths with Picasso and became the subject of his Sylvette series of more than 60 portraits, drawings and sculptures.
