Thurlestone Primary School pupil, Maddox Callard recently took part in the Regional Schools Judo Qualifier.

Maddox travelled up to Hutton Moor Leisure Centre in Weston-super-Mare on January 22 to compete in the Year 6 and 7 46kg category.

Maddox won all but one of his fights and brought back a bronze medal.

Maddox is coached by Pete Whitefield from South Brent Judo club.

Jan Bosence, deputy head of Thurlestone Primary School said: ‘We are all incredibly proud of Maddox and have all enjoyed seeing him progress with his Judo over the years. We are occasionally treated to a video of his competitions in assemblies which have showed everyone at school how skilled he has become and also how quickly he tends to dispatch his opposition!’
