THE 6th Kingsbridge Cubs were put through their paces last week by Leanne Smith, a local fitness instructor.

All of the 22 youngsters aged between eight and ten completed a punishing 45-minute workout in the scout hall. Leanne set up six exercise stations where they spent one minute each on four different exercises, such as press-ups, relay running, tricep dips and squats.

Kirsten Alexander, 6th Kingsbridge Cubs, said: ‘Within minutes there were some very hot and sweaty faces but the children rose to the challenge and persevered to the end, keeping up their effort levels with Leanne’s encouragement.

‘Everyone loved the fitness challenge and after such thirsty work, they enjoyed a well-deserved drink. This term the cubs have been learning a variety of new skills, such as playing boules, problem solving, meal planning, sewing, ironing and shoe cleaning.

Having mastered these new skills they will earn themselves the “Our Skills Challenge” award. The cub pack is very grateful to the people who have volunteered their expertise over recent weeks in helping them to achieve this.’
