AN ex-Kingsbridge Community College and Kingsbridge Primary student has graduated Oxford University with a first class degree in Maths.

Jacob Cable, 22, graduated on July 30, with a First Class Masters Degree in Maths from St Anne’s College, Oxford, and is now studying a PHD at Manchester University.

Jacob’s mum Carol said she was ‘very proud’ of her son and that she didn’t even know he had applied to Oxford until he announced he had got a place. ‘He’s done it all himself’, said Carole, ‘neither myself or my husband are particularly Maths-minded, but my father is very good at it so maybe it’s skipped a generation!’

Carol said she came across an old school report from Kingsbridge Primary School, in which a teacher had commented on how much Jacob ‘really loved Maths’ and he went on to receive three A*s and an A at A-Level from Kingsbridge Community College, as well as the Ernest Watson Memorial Prize for Maths in 2012.
