THE SLIMMING World group who meet at Kingsbridge Community College have raised £312 this year through small donations each week.
The money has been donated to the group’s ‘charity of the year’ - the Triangle Centre at South Hams Hospital.
The group have also donated bags of food to the Kingsbridge food bank and earlier in the year, organised a ‘clothes throw’, donating more than 90 bags of clothes to Cancer Research, raising approximately £2,700.
So far in 2015, the group have lost an 4,155 pounds between them, equivalent to the weight of two adult football teams!
Heather Gillard from the group said: ‘Members join Slimming World for a variety of reasons. Some join to lose weight for a special occasion, some so that they can shop in fashionable high street stores, some so that they can enjoy being the parent or grandparent they have always wanted to be.
‘Very often it’s for health reasons, members find that shedding those pounds has freed them from those niggling symptoms that they thought they were stuck with for life. By losing weight they have also reduced the risk of diabetes, osteoarthritis, alzheimers and some cancers.’
If you would like to join the group you will find them at Kingsbridge Community College every Wednesday at 6.30pm and every Thursday at 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
