The Picture Scanning Day will take place at Shilstone, near Modbury on Tuesday, May 24, for copying and preserving for future generations.
‘We would love to see any pictures or postcards you have of historic or modern scenes of Devon’s buildings or landscapes, which we can then scan and record to help keep memories of Devon’s past alive,’ explained Abi Gray, Resident Archaeologist at the DRA.
‘This is our seventh annual Picture Scanning Day’ Abi continued, ‘and each year we have an amazing array of images brought in that people have discovered hidden away in attics or cupboards - last year we received over a 1,000.
‘Some have kindly been donated to us, which we are very grateful for, and others have just been copied and recorded, but from them all we are able to glean a tremendous amount about Devon’s history. The aim is to keep this information for future generations, as well as put on exhibitions so that they can be enjoyed by a wider audience.’
The DRA team will be there between 11am and 3pm to scan your pictures and save copies for their Image Bank, before you take the originals home with you.
Entry is free of charge and visitors will also have a chance to browse the DRA library and archives and view the Modbury Memories exhibition currently on display. For further information please contact Abi Gray on 01548 830832 or visit the DRA website: www.devonruralarchive.com
