THE clocks go back an hour this Sunday, giving you an extra hour in bed, but less light in the evenings.
The clocks go back officially at 2am on Sunday, October 30, ending Daylight Saving Time.
Daylight Saving Time was the brain child of William Willett in 1907. He wrote a book called ‘The Waste of Daylight’ and it became his mission to get people out of bed earlier to prevent wasting the light mornings in the summer.
Unfortunately, William Willett died in 1915, less than a year before the Daylight Saving Time was put in place on May 21, 1916. During the Second World War, the UK was operating on British Double Summer Time as the clocks were not put back again at the end of the summer until 1945, and during severe fuel shortages in 1947 the country was also running on BDST.
They will ‘spring forward’ again on March 26, 2017, and then ‘fall back’ on October 29. But this year, its THIS SUNDAY MORNING AT 2AM.
