A MALBOROUGH resident has Braved the Shave for Macmillan Cancer Support after her nan was cared for by Macmillan nurses.

Charlotte Stone, 30, who works for Kaleidoscope, had her long hair shaved off at the Hair Advice Centre in Kingsbridge to raise money for the charity and to donate her locks to the Little Princess Trust who make wigs for children battling cancer.

‘One Sunday the advert for the Macmillan Brave the Shave came on the TV and I thought “I can do that”,’ explained Charlotte, ‘It seemed like a good idea a month ago - I was hungover at the time!’ she joked.

‘My nan died of breast cancer and she was looked after by Macmillan nurses and I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. It wasn’t life threatening and I was lucky; I only had to have laser treatment and not chemotherapy or radiotherapy.’

Charley, who was really nervous before the cut, said she had had a bob when she was very young but had always had long hair past her shoulders, so this was the first time having it short - and you couldn’t get much shorter!

‘At the end of the day its only hair’, said Charlotte, ‘It’ll grow back’.

A few women who were in HAC for their hair treatments handed over notes to add to her total, as did a few members of staff, and Charlotte thinks she has raised around £400 so far, through online donations, a sponsorship form and her dad giving her £50.

Hair Advice Centre apprentice Becky Giffen had the honour of cutting and shaving Charlotte’s hair, her first haircut in the salon. She donated the cut to Charlotte.

Charlotte and her sister are also organising a Big Coffee Morning for Macmillan at Malborough Village Hall on Friday, September 30, between 10am and 12pm.
