A STALLION owned by the Salcombe Stud has booked his place in the prestigious Horse of the Year Show 2016.
Shilstone Rocks Snowy Mountain, or Snowy cleaned up at the recent 77th Dartmoor Pony Society Championship Show near Okehampton, where rare pure bred Dartmoors come together to battle it out.
Snowy won the National Pony Society Mountain & Moorland Silver Medal Qualifier and the Overall Supreme Ridden Champion of Show, as well as the Horse Of the Year Show NPS/Baileys Horse Feeds M&M Ridden Pony of the Year Qualifer.
The stud, owned by Felicity Thompson who is ably assisted by Freddie and Freya Thompson, said winning the ’extremely prestigious’ competition was ’a tremendous result’. Snowy was ridden by Katy Marriott-Payne.
The grey stallion is 12 years old and has been to HOYS twice before, where he placed 6th and 8th ridden by Freddie.
The family said Snowy is renowned for his amazing temperament and movement and is a true child’s pony, attributes which transfer to his youngstock, of which they currently have 10.
The Salcombe Stud has been breeding Dartmoors for 17 years, and still has Snowy’s mother, 30 year old merit mare Shilstone Rocks Masada, in residence.
