Visitors travelling to South Devon by bus or train can now benefit from Rockfish’s summer parking incentive, without having to park.

The seafood restaurant group has extended its “Parking’s on Us” scheme to public transport users following what it described as the success of the initiative.

The original scheme, launched in June, offers diners up to four hours’ parking costs when they eat at participating Rockfish restaurants, including its South Hams venues in Dartmouth and Salcombe.

The new offer gives public transport users the equivalent of half a day’s parking at a nearby car park, which will be deducted from their restaurant bill.

Visitors travelling by bus or train simply need to show their ticket to their server when paying for their meal to claim the discount.

Rockfish founder and chief executive Mitch Tonks said the extension was intended to encourage visitors to make the most of South Devon’s coastal towns while also supporting more sustainable ways of travelling.

The offer is available until the next bank holiday (August 31) at participating Rockfish restaurants.

The company’s original “Parking’s on Us” scheme was introduced to encourage people to spend longer in coastal towns rather than being deterred by parking costs.

Rockfish said the initiative was designed to give visitors more time to explore harbour fronts, independent shops, beaches and local attractions, while supporting businesses in the wider visitor economy.

Mitch Tonks said: “We've been absolutely blown away by the response to ‘Parkings on Us’. It seems that people love the South West as much as we do, and they want to get out and visit these wonderful, wonderful towns and places.

“A few people said, what about if we come by bus or by train? And we've just decided to make it simple. Bring your bus ticket, bring your train ticket, bring your parking ticket - we will fund you up to the value of half a day's parking so you can enjoy our wonderful beaches.”
