The 11th annual Aveton Gifford Classic Car Show was a “triumph” with record crowds under mainly sunny and dry afternoon skies.

Taking place on August Bank Holiday Monday, the show welcomed more than 1,200 people through its gates, all keen to view some of the most iconic vehicles of the past century.

With 140 car exhibits, new organisers Ian Stainton and Rick Clayton said, “we even had to turn cars away this year!”

But the two said that the success of the show was also “due to the extreme hard work from the previous committee, namely the founder of the show, Tony Porter, and Tim and Heather Abrahall, who, when handing over the baton, had made detailed notes and an excellent template to follow!”

Like previous years, the show saw an extreme helping hand from the village residents, who happily volunteered their time to help man the gates, collect money and assume parking duties.

Vehicle exhibits ranged from late-twenties Morris saloons, Bentleys new and old, MG’s ranging from the years 1934 to 1988, mid-century tractors, a variety of Aston Martins, Jaguars, Panthers, and a few models from the US including a 1965 Ford Mustang and a 1944 Willys Jeep.

Show-goers saw a stunning 1937 Vauxhall DX six cylinder, an AC Cobra, and a very rare Aston Martin DB6 Mkll, of which there were fewer than 200 ever made.

With six separate food stalls and a number of stalls selling a variety of different things, you could ruffle your tastebuds while browsing both cars and stalls!

The silent auction and raffle were nothing short of a success this year - and a congrats to winner Pandora Worden - with most of the monies raised going towards Aveton Gifford Preschool at the Hive which is in need a much-needed upgrade to indoor and outdoor equipment.

The rest of the money will go towards other local village amenities such as the community outdoor swimming pool and the tennis court.

Ian and Rick were both “delighted” with how the day went. They said: “We are so lucky to have a village where so many people are happy to help and volunteer on the day. It’s a true reflection of what a great community we are lucky enough to live in.”

The event raised “in excess” of £6,000, with bookings already coming in for next year.
