People visiting Dartmouth on Sunday were shocked to see blood up the side of the wall of Ladbrokes in Duke Street.

The blood was the result of a 24-year-old local man smashing a window in Victoria Road, injuring himself in the process, who was found by police sitting outside the bookmakers at around 10.15pm on Saturday night.

A police spokesperson said the man was taken to Torbay Hospital by ambulance and will be spoken to in the future about the criminal damage done to the window in Victoria Road.

Kingsbridge Police posted on Facebook about the incident, saying: “Police were called this evening to Dartmouth to assist with a male who had smashed a window. Officers and an off-duty Doctor provided first aid to the male who had a serious arterial bleed.

“He was then conveyed to Torbay District Hospital in an ambulance, while Kingsbridge Police provided an escort to facilitate their progress through the traffic.”

A spokesperson for South Hams District Council, said: “We were notified of the hazardous issue in Dartmouth on Monday morning. We immediately notified our response team, who attended the area and carried out a thorough clean using the jet wash facility of our new mechanical sweeper.
