DESPITE the wet and windy weather, the South Hams Society’s New Year’s walk was a success.

A dozen South Hams Society members and their dogs celebrated the new yeae with a walk from Overbecks National Trust property in Salcombe, around the coast to Bolt Head, before turning inland to East Soar Outdoor Experience.

Vivian Napper, chair of the SHS, said: ‘This has become an annual event. For the seventh consecutive year Schulk and Mariska of East Soar Outdoor Experience welcomed the group with hot bowls of soup and all the trimmings.

‘In the early years the only shelter was an open sided barn, but now there is the wonderful Swallows Nest, rustic, warmed by a huge log burner and charmingly decorated. Then it was home across the fields to Overbecks.’
