Juniors get on board with joys of gig rowing

By sports contributor in Rowing

It is many years since Dart Gig Club had a junior section.

After a period of planning, the junior section was finally restarted, and over the last six months the group have been afloat once or twice a week, learning the basics of gig rowing.

They were able to have their first experience of gig racing at the first mini gig regatta at the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta.

To end the season, junior rowers and their parents attended a presentation, held at the Anchorstone Cafe last Saturday.

Darcy Humpreys was presented with the trophy for junior rower of the year. All the juniors were presented with gig club bobble hats. The youngsters will now be training for their first race of 2017 – our own Dart Gig Regatta, on April 8.

Any youngsters (11-16) interested in trying gig rowing may contact Peta Chivers on 07968 585594.

The club would like to thank the Anchorstone Cafe for their support and wonderful brownies.
